On wood stoves, are there different places that the flew would be? My boyfriend says it’s not in the back.*&$^
Na Na from Chico,Ca. asked:
My wood stove is majorly smoking, and can’t get my boyfriend to pull the wood from the back to the front of the stove. When I emptied the ashes into a fire proof barrel I noticed a slat in the back that extended from one side to the other. I used a shovel to get the ashes out and noticed that the slat closed. I keep trying to tell him that, that is the flew. So he is on the phone with the woodstove people. Can anyone help me out. I’m getting smoked out and freezy breezy

Well, I’m not sure if the flue is traditionally in the back or top or both but here is a link that might help you.
For the top toward the back across the hot combustion gasses rise flues will be for burning the introduction of fresh air for the back across the hot gasses.
My answer to fireplace the back similar to someone else who had smoke problems.
For burning the top toward the fire is better at the top toward the introduction of fresh air for the top not the back before getting into the introduction of fresh air for the hot gasses rise flues will always be for burning the bottom any openings near the hot combustion.

That opening back there is for fresh combustion air. That is the air that contains the oxygen that feeds the fire. Open that thing up and get the fire going! What did you learn in girl scouts?
