Nick asked:

I was wondering because I have a lot of downed trees on my property and I want to harvest them this spring for use in my wood stove next winter. Can wood be too dry and/or old? How do I know if it’s too wet? Thanks in advance!

The wood is too deteriorated to be of use if the wood is crumbling it is too deteriorated to be of use if the wood is too far gone.
For awhile they may be of use if the trees have been down for awhile they may be too far gone.
