dt asked:

I am thinking about putting a wood stove into my fire place. So do I have to run a separate chimney from the wood stove within my house chimney? Or can I just run a 6 foot one? Or what?

ask where you bought the stove you could run up through the existing chimney but the flue would be in your way, but seems to me a logical path, insert may be better choice as they would probably come with instruction on venting

Check where you got the stove, if your chimney is in good condition you should be able to vent out through the fire place, you will have to remove the damper from the fireplace first, you may want to check with the local building codes too, however any place that sells wood burning stoves or inserts should be able to give you the right answer to be safe you may want to check into a fireplace insert, they work quite well, especially if you can find a older one that is all cast iron on the front with a blower. Remember when buying a wood burning stove the smaller the flu the more efficient the stove.

The reason mention this is some insurances require certified install.
