Was thinking of installing a wood stove - can a stove pipe go up through the house up past the roof?
Filed Under wood stoves | 3 Comments
I want to install a free-standing wood stove in the corner of the living room, but I’m not sure if a stove pipe could just go straight up through the house without going through an existing chimney.
Are there ways to insulate it or cover it to reduce any risk of fire?
Have you seen this before?
This would also involve going through the second floor and the attic.

Just bought home (not new) that came with a free standing wood stove. The inner firebox and the outer metal of the wood stove both have cracks in the same place that appear large enough for a significant amount of smoke to escape. Can these be welded or fixed somehow or do I need to replace entire stove?

What is the difference between a wood stove purchased in a hardware store and one bought at a fireplace dealer

I have a farm house just given to me that is about 1000 SQ. Ft. and need to buy a wood stove. They are cheaper at the hardware stove but not sure if it is worth the savings.

How to quiet noisy wood stove insert?
Filed Under wood stoves | 5 Comments
I have a Napoleon 1401 wood stove insert in my fireplace. Works fine, except when the blowers are running, it vibrates the steel housing and shroud and makes an obnoxious buzzing sound. I can adjust the parts that are buzzing to make it stop, but it’s only temporary — they always go back to the annoying buzzing over time.
Can anyone think of a way to deal with this? My thought was to find some rubber and strategically place it around the shroud, effectively dampening the vibration, but I am worried about the high temperature of the stove. Can I buy high temperature rubber or silicone at a home improvement store?
Any other ideas? The stove is so much more effective when the blowers are on, I’d hate to have to leave them off.

We have a propane powered Dover (brand) stove, and we would like to convert it into a wood stove. Is it possible to do so? How do you do it?

Is it possible to vent a gas furnace through an existing wood stove chimney pipe?

I am trying to put a used furnace in my garage and already have a wood stove as an existing heat source in there.
If it is possible, will I also still be able to continue using the existing wood stove?
